Chinatown is very popular with visitors to Singapore. Its beautifully preserved shophouses provide a glimpse into the area's past, whilst the street stalls and fancy boutiques provide some of the most varied shopping in town. An abundance of temples and museums highlight the multi-ethnicity of Singapore, whilst a plethora of hawker stalls, restaurants and wine bars give plenty of options for eating and entertainment. So it is no surprise that this area has attracted several new boutique hotels in recent years, where they can take full advantage of the heritage architecture, and ethnic surroundings.
Number one on the list goes to the Club Hotel, located on popular nightspot Club Street, famed for its cosy wine bars and restaurants. Don't miss the hotel's trendy black-and-white themed roof bar for evening cocktails. Next door, the Scarlet Hotel is where to check into if you're looking for romance, with its plush gold and red velvet interiors guaranteeing you a seductive stay. The newly opened Saff Hotel from the same hotel group promises more of the same luxury with its Spice Route themed décor and features.
For something more quirky, try the nearby New Majestic Hotel featuring 30 idiosyncratically styled rooms divided into four types - mirror rooms, hanging bed rooms, aquarium rooms and loft rooms, all with original artwork from emerging Singapore artists. Or try out Hotel 1929 with its old world meets nouveau chic charm.
If you're looking for budget options, then check out the Berjaya Hotel or the Inn at Temple Street, while the Miramar slightly further away towards the Singapore River could be a good option for business travllers.
