The Central Business District in Singapore officially covers all financial and commercial areas of the city, including Raffles Place, Chinatown, Marina Bay, Singapore River and Orchard areas amongst others. More commonly however, it is used to refer to the Raffles Place, Marina Bay and Singapore River areas alone, and it is here that we concentrate Top Ten things to do list on.
The Singapore River and surrounding Colonial District area has always been a popular first stop with visitors, known for its picturesque perspectives of colonial buildings in the shadows of towering skyscrapers. It is here also that Sir Stamford Raffles first stepped ashore, and from where the city first grew. Still today we are seeing this area grow as Marina Bay has come into a life of its own thanks to reclaimed land and serious development, meaning this area now offers even more in the way of entertainment options.
Still a favourite way to take in the sights of the Singapore River is to jump aboard a bumboat for a leisurely river cruise, and this heads up our top ten list of things to do in the CBD. The best place to join a tour is at Merlion Park, where you can enjoy sweeping vistas of the modern architecture of Marina Bay. If you prefer your views to be more lofty, then two other options are open to you - the Singapore Flyer, currently the world's largest observation wheel, and the Sands Skypark atop the Marina Bay Sands hotel.
Also within the Marina Bay Sands complex, shoppers will be wowed by the Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, an enormous shopping mall boasting high-end boutiques and high-street favourites in addition to a dizzying array of jewellery and watch shops. Beyond the shops, a 24-hour casino and theatre will keep you entertained.
