Orchard Road is all about shopping and consumerism. With the highest concentration of shopping malls in the world, it's all about brands, brands, brands here in Singapore. So when it comes to finding things to do in Orchard, then it is only fitting that the top five entries on our top ten list go to shopping malls.
Number one on the list goes to ION Orchard, an enormous eight storey mall, with an entrance directly leading from Orchard MRT Station. The ground floor and above is home to all the big brand designer names, while as you descend through the floors, the shops become distinctly more high street. Basement level 4 is home to an excellent food court, and elsewhere there are more eating options than you can ever hope to try. As with the shops, the higher you go, the more exclusive and expensive the restaurants tend to get.
Linked via underground walkways from ION are two other Orchard malls on our list - Wisma Atria for more high street favourites and Ngee Ann City for those big designer brands again. The Mandarin Gallery bucks the trend, housing several independent boutiques, and good restaurant choices.
Orchard is also home to several art galleries, and we feature three of these here - check out the Museum of Art & Design (M.A.D) for modern art, Vue Privee for affordable photography and Jasmine Fine Art for contemporary Chinese art. When your weary feet and dwindling bank account can take no more, then head up to the Botanic Gardens just a short walk from Orchard Road to kick back on the lawns, home also to the very impressive National Orchid Garden.
