Singapore is a small city so it's not difficult to get in amongst the action, but if you're looking to head downtown, then the areas you should head to are Orchard Road, the Colonial District and Marina Bay. Orchard Road is Singapore's shopping belt - and with the highest concentration of shopping malls in the world, you will be spoilt for choice if you're looking to flex your credit card. The Colonial District forms the centre of old Singapore, while Marina Bay is the new heart of Singapore - close to the Central Business District, and home to several theatres, shopping malls, restaurants and attractions, it is a great place to head to for a slice of the action.
Since its completion in 2010, The Marina Bay Sands hotel and casino complex dominates the Marina Bay skyline. In addition to wowing onlookers with its architecture, it houses many entertainment options, including the Sands Skypark which offers some of the best views in the whole city, the Shoppes - its mall of upmarket shops and boutiques, and of course the Casino.
Just across the water from the Marina Bay Sands, the Singapore Flyer is currently the world's highest observation wheel and shouldn't be missed for more fantastic views across the city and out to sea. If you prefer to keep your feet firmly on solid ground, then head to Merlion Park one of the best spots for enjoying the views of the Marina Bay skyline. This is also the best place to jump aboard a river cruise which will take you on up the Singapore River.
