Art lovers will find plenty of galleries and exhibitions to please the eye when in Singapore. Development is currently underway to convert City Hall on the Padang into the National Art Gallery, due to open at the end of 2014. Until then, you can feast your eyes on the offerings in the following ten art galleries in Singapore.
The latest addition to the Singapore arts and museum scene is the ArtScience Museum, which is making headlines as much for its architecture as its exhibitions. The ArtScience Museum promises to become a premier venue for major international touring exhibitions from the most renowned collections in the world, and kicked off with the world premiere of Van Gogh Alive the exhibition in April 2011.
The Singapore Art Museum boasts the world's largest collection of Southeast Asian art. The collection is divided into two buildings - the main collection is housed in a rather grand 19th century building, while across the road the newer 8Q SAM, focusses more on experimental art forms.
Several smaller, private galleries are worth seeking out - don't miss Vue Privee for its affordable photographic prints, ReDot Gallery for Australian Aboriginal art collection, Indigo Blue for Indian art, and Utterly Art for its continually updated collection of Singaporean and Philippines art.
