The cultural melting pot of Singapore means that number and variety of religious sights to visit is staggering. Singapore is made up of a predominantly Chinese population, with significant numbers of Malays and Indians, and smaller groups of Eurasians and other ethnic groups. The government's promotion of racial harmony means that everyone happily lives side by side in overlapping communities, and it's not uncommon to find a Chinese Temple, a Mosque, a Church and a Hindu Temple all within a short walk of each other.
A visit to one of these many varied places of worship is an excellent way to learn about the religion, culture and background of the devotees who worship there, and they are often architecturally worth a visit too.
Top of our list is the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum. This staggering building not only houses one of the most revered relics in the Buddhist world, but has an excellent museum where you can learn all about Lord Buddha and feasts your eyes on some of the world's most beautiful Buddhist artefacts. The nearby Thian Hock Keng temple is possibly Singapore's most picturesque temple, whilst across town the Kuan Im Thong Hood Cho temple is where to head at Chinese New Year, or to have your fortune told.
The most stunning mosque in town in undoubtedly the staggering Masjid Sultan which presides over the Arab Quarter, while those looking to learn more about the Hindu culture should visit the Sri Mariamman temple in Chinatown, or the Sri Veerama Kaliamman temple in the heart of Little India.
