Hi, I am arriving in Singapore on August 1, 2009. I am looking for a place to stay. Prefereably an private room in a central location. I don't like the idea of staying in dorms, but would like to pay the price of a dorm. Any suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks

There a few options.
1) Look at 88db.com.sg for rooms avilable for rent in a central location. Most accomodate rental on a weekly or short term basis.
2) You can also check out other hostels like Waterloo hostel that has private rooms available for rent and they are in a central location.
3) Summerview hotel, The Beach Hotel etc are good class hotels that are located in the city. Another memeber has mentioned that Hotel81 in Little India offers great value.
4) Another hotel tha I can think of is Balmoral Hotel that is off Bukit Timah Road and is minutes away from the City.
5) YWCA at Stevens Road
