Description:
- Located just a few miles from Camp Richardson, this casual and relaxing two-mile round-trip hike leads to the historic Soda Water Spring site that was first discovered in 1863. The famous architect Bernard Maybeck, who also designed the San Francisco Palace of Fine Art, built this resort, which is one of the earliest in the Tahoe Basin, in 1864. As you meander through the Desolation Valley Wilderness, you will happen upon cascading waterfalls, snow-fed creeks, wildflowers and beautiful Glen Alpine Canyon. This is a great place for the family to come and spend the day, so bring enough food and drink with you. Be sure to wear sturdy and comfortable shoes. The hike is free.
