Description:

  • Quite a find, Native Traditions Gallery offers a comprehensive display of Native American art and history from the Missouri/Mississippi River perspective.  The gallery carries exquisite, original paintings, pottery, jewelry, and sculptures by Native American artists and craftsmen. Marvel at the colorful, miniature handcrafted kachinas, traditionally recognized as spirit beings by the Pueblo tribe. The immaculate hand made Taos drums, also known as Powwow drums, are made from northern New Mexico wood and animal skins, designed to make that wonderful, soulful sound. The works on display and for sale were acquired by benevolent means and the artists benefit from the sale of their wares. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly and can bestow a wealth of knowledge about the pieces in the gallery as well as the history of the Native people from the area now known as St. Charles. Visit Native Traditions Gallery for a lesson in history and then, enjoy the rest of Historic Main Street in St. Charles. -Cathryn D. Blue
