Top 10:

St. John Water Sports

  • The Best of NileGuide
  • Since beach and ocean is what St. John is most famous for, some of the best fun to be had in St. John is on (or under) the water. Whether it be kayaking, scuba diving, sailing, or fishing, you'll find all manner of self-guided and tour-guided excursions to help you enjoy and explore the beautiful Caribbean sea.

There are two ways to experience the ocean on St. John. You can either go it alone, or have someone else take you. If you are the more independent type, then by all means take yourself and your swimsuit to a gorgeous beach like Leinster Bay and rent some snorkel equipment. Or rent a dinghy at Crabby's explore Coral Bay. Or even better, rent a powerboat at Ocean Runner in Cruz Bay and explore secluded coves and remote islands.

But if you want a local expert to guide the way, there are more than enough companies who specialize in taking tourists out to explore the variety of watersports activities on St. John.

Companies like Arawak Expeditions offer guided kayak tours around St. John's beautiful north shore which let you learn about the tiny islands and colorful reefs. Gone Ketchin' takes visitors on excursions to catch kingfish, tarpon, barracuda, shark, tuna, wahoo, and more. Sailing charters are offered by companies such as Sail Safaris and Catamaran Adventures, and Low Key Watersports is a good place to catch a SCUBA dive tour. If you're not certified, you can always try SNUBA (a cross between SCUBA and snorkeling), which is available at V.I. SNUBA Excursions in Cruz Bay. Snorkelers who want to explore areas not accessible from shore can take a snorkel excursion with Sadie Sea Charters.
