Description:
This hotel in the verdant uplands above Dieppe Bay is situated among the ruins of a muscovado sugar factory on the northeast coast, with a good sandy beach just a short drive away. Isolated and rural in flavor, and dominated by the artfully gaunt masonry smokestack of the long-ago sugar cane distillery, this former plantation enjoys cool breezes from both ocean and mountains. Behind the 5 hectares (12 acres) of manicured lawns and gardens, the land segues into a rainforest and Mount Liamuiga. Accommodations lie within the original core of either the main house or what used to be the distillery, or within pleasantly decorated outbuildings. There's no air-conditioning, but ceiling fans and cross-ventilation keep the place comfortable. Each unit, generous in size, is decorated in a Caribbean country-house style with antiques, stone or white walls, floral prints, local art, and rattan furnishings. Many bedrooms have mahogany four-posters.
