NileGuide Expert Says:
A stroll down Bolshoy Prospekt from Metro Sportivnaya to Metro Petrogradskaya will take you through the heart of what Petersburgers call the other city center. Treat yourself to a pancake with chocolate at one of the blini stands at Sportivnaya Metro before embarking on this 20 minute walk. This is a great way to see the stunning, yet still mostly unrestored architecture of from the 18th to the 20th centuries.
Description:
- This is the main avenue coursing through the Petrogradskaia side of the city, which is sometimes claimed by locals as truly their own, in contrast to the touristy environs of Nevskii Prospekt and the Canals. Narrower than Nevskii with the traffic hurtling one way towards Tuchkov Bridge, Bolshoi Prospekt is very much a commercial area boasting some quality shops, cafes and restaurants. Other buildings lining the Prospekt are apartment blocks built in the classical Petersburg style. Here is where you will find the Yubileini Arena and Petrovskii Stadium.
