NileGuide Expert Says:
Toss coins on to this tiny statue for good luck! Chizhik Pizhik is - for some reason - often stolen, but the City does a good job in replacing it regularly!
Description:
- You may wonder why this tiny bird statue erected in 1994 is so popular among the locals, but when you say Chizhik Pizhik, Russians always smile. Chizhik (a small bird) was the nickname of the law students from a nearby university in the 1830s. The rhyme made up by the law students back then that has made its way into popular lore roughly translates as: "Little Chizhik where have you been? I was down on the Fontanka drinking vodka!"
