Smolenskoe Pravoslavnoe Kladbishche (Smolensk Orthodox cemetery)

Description:

  • This burial place, situated near the Black river, was established by decree of the Synod (church council) in 1738. The most famous place in the cemetery is the small chapel over the relics of Ksenia of St. Petersburg, who is considered to be the divine patron of the city. The poet Blok was also buried here (to the west of Ksenia's chapel) but his remains were later transferred to 'Literatorskie Mostki' necropolis.
