Description:

  • The interesting and rich history of this small town, situated to the east of St. Petersburg, is reflected in the remaining buildings. Foremost among them is the Uspenskii monastery, which was for many years the religious, administrative and cultural centre of the town. In spite of numerous reconstructions the Uspenskii monastery's cathedral still plays an important role as the town's central monument. The belfry is a particularly interesting aspect of the monastery. Besides such wonderful architectural monuments, fragments of the famous Tikhvin water system of the beginning of the 19th century have been preserved.
