it all depends on the capacity in which you come)
The best variants, it is to come as an exchange student, as at universities in St. Petersburg (namely, my-Saint-Petersburg State University) is very good, even the Russian language courses.
In addition, all teachers (in different from many conventional courses) have years of experience and multiple academic degrees in the teaching of language one can live at the same university accommodation, it will be useful for skills not only Russian but also of other languages.
The second option, which I see as appropriate in your situation is to go on exchange from one of international programs for youth, for example AIESEC.

As someone who is constantly engaged in organizing international exchanges of foreign youth from different countries can say for sure that just come to himself in the independent Russian language course, remove yourself (not while still in Russia), an apartment or a room on short or long period without the assistance of persons who find in St. Petersburg, almost unreal.
but if you can not go on exchange in St. Petersburg or any other university city or even on an exchange program (which would include full or partial payment of accommodation as well as constant communication with native speakers trained to), then write more and I will try find something truly acceptable.
Good luck!)
Here is a link to the website of courses at Petersburg.
Tuition for the month will be about so-and-a reference to a language school in the city, as well as prise courses in one of them, I think that would be enough for the level of 20 hours per week!

Hi! have a look at this links, they should help you. On the questionst about the price of renting an accomodation it will cost you from 300 EUR per month un centeral area (which I'd recomend to you as it is beautiful and safer that other parts in the city, and close to pubs and clubs)) I'd also advise you to share an accomodation with other students through the language school you choose. You may need to check Saint-Petersburg Times newspaper - can be a great help. regards, Liliya

Hello,
It is a good idea to study Russian in the best city in the world.
But it is expensive and you need visa to Russia.
If you need Russian for your job I can invite you in the hotel in Slovenia to study Russian with me and practice with Russian tourists here. I am a diploma teacher.
Slovenia is in the EU. dik12@yandex.ru

I recommend you find a nice Russian girl who speaks no English (or French, German, Italian etc...).
You will soon learn Russian.
