Top 10:

St. Thomas Outdoor Activities

  • The Best of NileGuide
  • Ah, the great outdoors. St. Thomas is host to some of the best outdoor recreation activities in the Caribbean, from golf, to hiking, to kayaking, to sailing. Just pick your pleasure and get going.

If you're a golfer, playing a round amid the majestic views and crisp ocean air of Mahogany Run golf course is a must-do experience. Tiger Woods and other celebs have played here, so it's no slouch as far as golf courses are concerned. If you're more inclined to play miniature golf, you can do that too: Winners Miniature Golf and Entertainment Center at Wyndham Sugar Bay resort offers a 9-hole course of its own, plus bumper boats, arcade games, and a whole lot more.

Hiking is a great way to explore the outdoor environment, and most of the best hiking is on smaller islands surrounding St. Thomas. Water Island and Hassel Island both offer history, beaches, and wildlife to satisfy both novice and experienced hikers.

Then there are the waterports. Fishing, windsurfing, scuba diving, snorkeling, and boating are the most popular ways to enjoy the ocean, though not necessarily in that order. At companies like West Indies Windsurfing, Nauti Nymph, Coki Beach Dive Club or Daysail Fantasy you can rent a windsurf board or powerboat -- or charter a day trip to explore the wild blue yonder.

If you want to combine several activities into one single excursion, Virgin Islands Ecotours offers kayaking/hiking/snorkeling trips that let you do a little bit of everything in one afternoon.

And for the ultimate thrill, try getting a bird's eye view of the beauty of the island with Air Center Helicopters. In 25 minutes they'll whisk you over Charlotte Amalie, along the north coast of St. John, over Jost Van Dyke in the British Virgin Islands, and back to St. Thomas via Magens Bay.
