Not every restaurant is right for a traveling family. White linen, elegant décor, and strange sauces are bound to put off even the most well-behaved kid. The good news is that St. Thomas is full of eateries that aim to provide a stress-free meal where everyone can enjoy themselves and find something on the menu to get excited about. And even better, the best kid-friendly restaurants on St. Thomas run the gamut from casual West Indian eateries to fine Italian establishments.
The dockside area of Havensight is full of kid-friendly restaurants, starting with the Delly Deck, a laid-back breakfast joint popular with locals. The famous pancakes and fry-up platters will please even the pickiest kid's palate. Not far from Delly Deck is the easygoing Havensight Cafe, which offers sandwiches and salads on an open-air patio that kids can freely roam around without worrying about disturbing other patrons. And for a slice of award-winning pizza without pomp and circumstance, head across the street to Pizza Amore in the Al Cohen Mall.
In downtown Charlotte Amalie several establishments readily welcome kids. Bumpa's offers sandwiches and burgers on an upstairs open-air patio with amazing harbor views. Closer to the ground is Cafe Amici, whose varied offerings include the famous "rasta pasta," clams casino pizza, antipasti, salads, and a soup du jour. And at Coconuts the ambiance is cozy and friendly, the interiors embellished with unusual artifacts, and a grill that fries up some of the best burgers on St. Thomas.
Elsewhere on the island you'll find dozens of other restaurants where kids will be not only welcomed, but positively encouraged. At Kokopelli Cafe at Market Square East, the wide-ranging menu features everything from Middle Eastern fare such as hummus and babaganoush, to pizza, pastas, Greek salads, steaks, and wraps. One corner is filled with toys and video monitors, so kids can play while parents eat. Pesce (the East End Cafe) in Red Hook offers a kids' menu geared toward introducing little ones to Italian food. And the Udder Delite Dairy bar near Magens Bay features unbeatable milkshakes in exotic flavors such as Jamocho and Eskimo Sip -- with or without a shot of liquor.
