  • Romance is in the air in St. Thomas -- and in the water, the cobblestone passageways, and the gardens. St. Thomas is pretty much the perfect place for a romantic vacation a deux, with no shortage of romantic activities to keep even the sappiest of couples satisfied.

    The most romantic things to do on St. Thomas tend to revolve around the beach and ocean. There are literally dozens of beaches where you can cocoon yourself with your sweetie into a blissful reverie, but some are more conducive to this than others. Honeymoon Beach (on Water Island) is possibly the most romantic beach around, mainly due to its postcard-perfect palm-fringed sand, and lack of crowds. Close seconds are Secret Harbour beach, Hull Bay beach, and Lindquist beach, all of which have that essential combination of fine white sand, relaxed atmosphere, and not too many other people.

    A day or evening sail is another way to get some quality time with your honey while drinking in the sun, surf and scenery -- and possibly some champagne, too. Companies like New Horizons Daysails offer charter journeys around the island for couples or groups, and can customize a trip at your request. Or for more active couples, V.I. Ecotours can take you on combo kayaking-hiking-snorkeling treks off St. Thomas's south shore, in and around the mysterious mangroves.

    If you prefer to be above the water instead of on it, aerial sightseeing is a romantic alternative. Seaborne Seaplanes can lift you up, up and away over St. Thomas and all the way over the water to the British Virgin Islands for an hour or two of exhilirating "flightseeing."

    Back on terra firma couples can also find plenty of romantic activities among St. Thomas's historic districts and estates. Spend some time wandering through the enchanting back alleys of downtown Charlotte Amalie, and stop into the Belgian Chocolate Factory for some chocolate-covered strawberries. Or head uphill to the St. Peter Estate and Greathouse, and stroll hand-in-hand through the mesmerizing botanical garden and aviary.
