Top 10:

St. Thomas Tours

  • The Best of NileGuide
  • You can't discover everything on your own. Sometimes you need a little extra guidance to fully appreciate the attractions of St. Thomas. Whether you want to take a whistle-stop day tour of the island's main attractions or delve deep under water and explore the undersea world, the best tours on St. Thomas will take care of everything for you and get you closer to the heart of the island.

There are literally dozens of private tour companies who will take you on a island-hopping tour, and you can either arrange for one to pick you up at your hotel, or jump on one at either of the two cruise ship docks. Tropic Tours, for example, will whisk you around attractions such as Drake's Seat, Mountain Top, the downtown shopping district, Magens Bay, and St. Peter's Great House, with lunch or a drink included. Similar tours operate on St. John and can take you through the National Park, plus various beaches and bars.

You can also view the glory of St. Thomas from the air via seaplane or helicopter tour. Seaborne Seaplanes takes you over remote islands, turquoise waters, St. John's Virgin Islands National Park, and the islands' cities and towns, while Air Center Helicopters flies 17 to 25-minute journeys over St. Thomas, St. John, the British Virgin Islands, or all of the above.

Specialty tours can help you get to know a particular area or activity. Virgin Islands Ecotours, for example, offers half-day combo kayaking-hiking-snorkeling trips that let you explore the mangroves, ocean, and offshore islands. Water Island Adventures offers guided trips of the fourth Virgin Island. You'll visit a long-closed hotel crumbling in the tropical bush, the ruins of an old plantation and the stunning Honeymoon Beach from atop a bicycle.

For something really unusual, check out BOSS Adventures. Experienced underwater guides will take you on a motorized water-scooter tour of the undersea world around St. Thomas. Each machine looks a bit like a land-based scooter, but includes a domed headpiece that seals tight around the head to prevent water entering. A tank attached to the scooter provides continuous oxygen, and the scooters are motorized so no swimming is required.
