  • St. Thomas offers a wide variety of accommodation choices, from glittery resorts, to business hotels, to boutique inns, to self-contained condos. All the best hotels on St. Thomas combine excellent service, value, and atmosphere, but which style of lodging you choose ultimately depends on your individual tastes.

Five-star accommodation options include The Ritz-Carlton, the Marriott Frenchman's Reef, and the Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort & Spa. These three upscale mega-resorts all offer a complete suite of amenities, including spas, private beaches, swimming pools, restaurants, watersports, and kids' activities. The Ritz is the most upscale of the three, but the Wyndham and the Marriott are close seconds and are regularly booked solid in peak season.

If you're looking for moderately priced, relaxed beachfront accommodation, consider the Best Western Emerald Beach Resort, the Windward Passage Hotel, or the Bolongo Bay Beach Resort. Bolongo has the most resort-like atmosphere, while the Best Western and Windward Passage have a more structured "hotel" feeling but still offer excellent service and value. The Sapphire Beach Resort and Marina also offers well-priced self-contained beachfront condo units which are popular with families.

Charlotte Amalie is known for the stylish boutique hotels that dot its hillsides. The Villa Santana, one of the best, once belonged to General Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana of Mexico. Each room has been converted from a previous incarnation as either a library, slave quarters, or pumphouse. The Mafolie Hotel and Hotel 1829, which are similar in style and character, also offer spectacular views and a whiff of history within their walls.
