Description:

  • At the intersection of Main Street and Strand Gade is Charlotte Amalie's main farmer's market, where local merchants sell fresh fruits and vegetables every day of the week except Sunday (unless a lot of cruise ships are in town). Formerly the site of the island's slave trading market, it morphed into a railway station before its present incarnation as an open-air market. Haggling is permitted, and visitors are encouraged to break out of their comfort zone and try some native ackee, genips, coconut and cassava. Hours are Monday through Saturday, roughly 9am to 3pm.
