Clay Pit Ponds State Park Preserve

• Clay Pit Ponds State Park Preserve is a 260-acre natural area near the southwest shore of Staten Island. It contains a variety of unique habitats such as wetlands, ponds, sand barrens, spring-fed streams and woodlands. The preserve is managed to retain its unique ecology and to provide educational and recreational opportunities for people of all ages. Educational programs including nature walks, pond ecology, bird watching and tree and flower identification are offered. School and groups are welcome with advance registration. Picnicking, hiking and horseback riding are also available. There is no horse rental.

  Clay Pit Ponds Preserve offers a bridle path, hiking trails, a nature trail, picnic tables and expansive education programs. Group programs are offered with advance reservation. The park is open year-round.

  Clay Pit Ponds Preserve is on Staten Island, New York. Take the Verranzano Bridge to Interstate 287 West (Staten Island Expressway) to Route 440 South (West Shore Expressway) for about 6 miles to Bloomingdale Road - Exit 3. Turn left onto Bloomingdale Road. Go about 1 miles to Sharrotts Road and turn right. Travel a little less than 1 mile turning right onto Carlin and continuing to the end.
