Description:
Near the harbor in the basement of City Hall, this two-in-one restaurant -- after passing through a beautiful carved wooden doorway, you'll enter an interior that is divided into the Skänken, which serves lunch only, and the Stora Matsalen -- offers an opportunity to sample food enjoyed by Nobel Prize winners. (The chefs here prepare the annual Nobel Prize banquet.) Out comes a mountain grouse breast baked in black trumpet mushrooms with caramelized apples, poached onions, and broad beans, served with a Norman Calvados sauce and potato cake. You can opt, of course, for other main-course delights, including a confit of salmon filet with roasted Jerusalem artichokes, marinated beets, and a lemon emulsion; or else grilled turbot with smoked almonds. And to top it all off, how many times do you see a Roquefort cheesecake on the menu? This surprise dessert came with a fig and cherry compote.
