Skoklosters slott (Stockloster Palace)

• Skokloster Palace was uninhabited for many years and was never quite completed. The construction took place during the period of 1654-1677 under the direction of architects Caspar Vogel and Nicodemus Tessin Sr. Commander Carl Gustaf Wrangel, who had acquired an interest in palatial construction when he was overseeing the renovations of two Renaissance palaces on the island of Rügen, commissioned Skokloster. In the banqueting hall, one of the halls that remained unfinished, tools from the construction work are on display. The palace was purchased by the state in 1967, and with its adjoining gardens it is an interesting example of the Baroque style that was prevalent during the mid-seventeenth century. Guided tours are available every hour, with discounted tickets available for children, students and senior citizens. There is a souvenir shop, a palace café and a craft workshop for children.
