Description:
A beautiful sky-lit restaurant, Au Crocodile serves the most inventive food in Strasbourg. Only two restaurants in this region equal it: Le Buerehiesel and the Auberge de l'Ill. An especially appealing feature is the fixed-price menus that revolve around creative themes, which have included Egypt and Victor Hugo. Chef Emile Jung offers a wide array of inventive dishes. Some of the best include strips of duckling cooked in a sauce of red wine and a reduction of the bird's blood; sautéed scallops with purée of celery and Indian-style (Marsala-style) spiced butter sauce; delicate local freshwater whitefish (sandre) served in sauerkraut; and duck liver cooked in a salt crust. Our major problem comes only when the bill (la note, as the French say) arrives -- especially when we indulge in the high-priced wines.
