Description:

  • You'll be hard-pressed to find a better moderately priced Indian restaurant in the Sydney area. Tucked away up a staircase next to the Steyne Hotel (just off the Corso near the main beach), Ashiana has won prizes for its traditional spicy cooking. I've eaten there for years. Portions are large and filling, though creamy in that kind of pampering-to-Western-tastes style. The service is friendly. The butter chicken is magnificent, while malai kofta (cheese and potato dumplings in mild, creamy sauce) is the best this side of Bombay. Work off the excellent meal with a beachside stroll afterward.
