Civic Dining in the Civic Hotel, a wonderful Art Deco pub that has somehow managed to survive the wrath of the developers, dwarfed by skyscrapers on all sides, right on the edges of Chinatown in mid-Southern downtown Sydney. The menu is Greek with inflections from other Eastern Mediterranean cuisines. The food is about as good as you are likely to get – expect the best ingredients and solid yet creative cooking. Civic Dining is a good choice though if you find yourself in this lively, interesting part of town, with a noisy, fun atmosphere, as suits the location. When you are done, and if you have time, check out the Mandarin Club across the road - an excellent mini-casino mostly populated by severe-seeming Chinese-speaking grandmothers.
