- Striving to break the mould of cheese- and rice-laden menus, chef and owner Edgar Chavez has opened Media Luna as a tribute to fresh Mexican flavors and ingredients. This bright and airy cafe-style eatery on Clovelly Road has piqued plenty of interest since it opened in late 2009, with its authentic, but not clichéd, approach to this well-known cuisine. The house specialty is a take on chicken enchiladas, which are served with a traditional chili-cocoa sauce, but for something a little different, tuck into the Mayan dish of pork marinated in achiote paste and served with a pineapple sauce. -Kashmir Brummel
