Pilu at Freshwater

• Here's an idea for an excellent Sydney summer afternoon: first, head down to Freshwater beach for a swim in the lovely cove of Freshwater Beach, which gets crowded in the summer with a cheerful and diverse character of mostly locals. Then a towel-down and a sun bake until the heat goes out of the day, and which point its up and off Pilu at Freshwater for a bite. And then a lazy evening sipping wine and gazing out over the gorgeous Pacific as the sun sets. Pilu is situated in a heritage listed and beautifully restored Australian vernacular building, and is a highly regarded purveyor of mostly seafood-based dishes, prepared in the Sardinian stylings of Giovanni Pilu, the head chef. Note well, however: the place is distinctly short on options for vegetarians.
