Among its many activities are the Rock Baths; a large saltwater swimming pool located at the south end of the beach provides a protected alternative for swimmers and small children who enjoy the calm waters to the crashing waves. The main beach is always patrolled by lifeguards and is widely known as a great spot to enjoy the surf. A well-formed right break makes Avalon a favorite among surfers.
