Congrats! Sydney is AWESOME and one of my favorite cities in the world. You will have a blast. If you want to be closer to the city, I would suggest Surry Hills, Darlinghurst, or Paddington, near Oxford St. However, if you love the beach culture, Coogee Beach is a great spot with a young vibe and is easily accessible to downtown within 15 minutes by bus. Bondi is also a good choice. Have fun!
