It is funny that you should contact me as I am off to Moscow in 2 weeks time! When do you come to Australia?
Well places to see in Sydney:
Harbour Bridge - you can walk across it and have a good view of the city
Opera House - very famous Sydney Icon (I run around this every lunchtime)
The Rocks - Sydney's historic area
Taronga Zoo - catch the ferry out there on a nice day you can't beat it.
Bondi Beach - I use to live there it is a 12min train ride from the city and is Australia's most famous beach.
Darling Harbour - The casino is there, the Aquarium, many restaurants, bars, and night clubs.
Blue Mountains - This is about 2 hours on the train from Sydney and is pretty much bush, there are some good hikes out there if you are interested in that sort of stuff.
If you are just staying around Sydney then the nearest wine region is the Hunter Valley which is only a few hours from the city you can do a day tour out there or an over night tour of the wineries.
Last summer I had a friend out from Austria and we went out on a yacht with a few friends on Sydney Harbour for 4 hours it was quite good and pretty reasonablly priced. I think it was $500 (less than $100 each, there were 6 of us)or so for half a day on a weekend that is about 12,500 Roubles. If you want the details I can pass them on.
As for clubs we don't have big clubs like in Europe, but the main areas for clubs are King Street Wharf in Darling Harbour, Kings Cross (Red Light District),Oxford Street in the City(Gay area),and the Ivy on George Street (main street in Sydney).
If I am in Sydney when you are here I am more than happy to show you and your friends around. I get back 10th August. I will be in Russia for 3 weeks I am going down to the Caucasus to climb Mt Elbrus. Then I spend just over a week in Austria.
Hope this has been helpful. If you need any more help just let me know.

Join Couchsurfing.com and then join the Sydney Group where you will meet locals who organise events that you can attend. Dining out in Sydney is great and cheap in Glebe and Newtown.

Welcome to Sydney.
A trip to the Hunter Valley is highly recommended as per your line of work. It is about an hour and a half to two hours trip from Sydney. It is Australia's oldest and best known wine region. Plenty of award winning wineries and restaurants.
I will recommend The Rocks as your first port of call on your first day in Sydney...lots of restaurants, cafe. bars, accommodations, museums and market.
Visit the Sydney Visitor's Centre. There are lots of brochures af all atrractions and things to do there including harbour cruise which is one you are after.
Visit my website for more info. It is still developing and i will take your questions into consideration as i build my site...
I will appreciate it if you can share your experience in Sydney in my site after you have your trip.
Thanks and hope you have a great time.
