    Description:

    Begun in 1841, this historic, late-Georgian complex took seven years to build and houses the oldest surviving army barracks throughout Australia. The work was supervised by Major George Barney, commanding the Royal Engineers, and incorporates sandstone quarried on the site. Free guided tours are lead by volunteers once a week and comprise a thirty minute band presentation, a one hour tour of the complex and an optional visit to the Army Museum. The latter focuses upon the history of the armed forces in New South Wales and displays such objects as weaponry, costume and paper artifacts.

The ground floor space is well designed and provides an appropriate venue for the galleries temporary exhibition program, which changes every three weeks. These shows are accompanied by either an exhibition list or more comprehensive catalogue. Works from the stock room can also be viewed upstairs. The gallery represents painters like John Olsen, Robert Jacks, Deborah Russell and Marie Hagerty as well as the sculptors Nigel White, Mark Schaller and Ron Robertson-Swann.

    If you need a quick country fix, this is it; 220 hectares of unspoiled parkland just minutes from the city centre. Paddington pooches, young Mums, picnickers, in-line skaters and the obsessively fit, all make the most of this perfect park. It is lush, green, and due to its size, relatively uncrowded. Make the most of the free barbecues and picnic areas, and if you forget to take your own comestibles, there are several kiosks serving drinks and refreshments throughout the park. Admission is free.

    Located just out of contemporary Newtown, the Enmore Theatre is the host to some of Sydney's best and most diverse shows, events and bands. Enmore Theatre was built in 1908 and has remained a family run business. Over the years it has become one of the most popular venues in Sydney due to it's comfortable and intimate vibe during shows. The Enmore Theatre has recently undergone a redesign offering a newly re-designed bar and cafe and 1600 new comfortable seats. With a range of cultural events and performances throughout the week from flamenco dancing, to cabaret, rock bands and mainstream musicals the Enmore Theatre remains one of the most diverse venues in the area.     A spin-off of the Well Connected internet cafe in Glebe. Satellite's draw card is a series of performance evenings that feature live music, poetry readings and short film screenings. Despite an uninspiring cream brick facade, the funky split-level interior is a retro-cool pastiche of turquoise leather armchairs, cherry red lounge suites, chrome tables and a turntable and groovy record collection in the corner. The menu includes wood-fired toast with ricotta and honey, veggie burgers (with or without the bun), and eggs any which way.
