Description:
Housed in a building designed by noted contemporary architect Antoine Predock, the Tacoma Art Museum may not have as big a reputation as the Seattle Art Museum, but it mounts some impressive shows. The building is filled with beautiful galleries in which to display both the museum's own collections and traveling exhibitions. The museum is best known for its large collection of art by native son Dale Chihuly, and fans of the glass artist can sign up for a walking tour of many of his works both here in the museum and around downtown. Tours are offered a couple of days each week, cost $15, and include museum admission. The museum also offers a cellphone tour of area Chihuly installations. It also has respectable collections of European Impressionism, Japanese woodblock prints, and American graphic art, and it regularly brings in large traveling shows.
