  • Italian food has been popular in Asia for quite some time, but consequently, it can be hard to sort through all the junk to find the really good stuff. Plenty of restaurants calling themselves Italian really serve Chinese-style food that might not even resemble the favorites you're looking for. If you've been craving some good old-fashioned, carb-heavy Italian goodness, try one of these top ten Italian restaurants in Taipei.

Coming in at number one, Solo Pasta has won the honor of best Italian restaurant by a popular Taipei food blogger for the last couple years. Despite the modest interior and local feel, the pastas from the small menu at Solo Pasta are second to none. Just try the balsamic duck pasta and you'll understand.

For diners feeling a little light in the pocket book, Taipei has a couple very nice local trattorias serving surprisingly high-quality food in a more modest setting and for a fraction of the price of some of the more upscale Italian restaurants in town. Among the best of these are La Cucina Del Sole and Primo Trattoria. Either one of them is nice enough for a date or special group dinner yet casual enough for a meal with friends.

When all you really want is a taste of home, Romano's Macaroni Grill serves American-sized portions that taste exactly like they would at the local branch of this international chain restaurant back home.

Most of Taipei's best Italian restaurants really specialize in American-style Italian food, but if you're looking for a taste of the real thing, give Osteria Rialto a try. The chef, a native of Verona, serves a fairly extensive menu of traditional rustic Italian cuisine in comfortable and friendly surroundings.
