  • The Best of NileGuide
  • The cultural makeup of Israel has developed a fusion of food because immigrants from Russia, Poland, Ukraine, France, Spain, Italy, Libya, Ethiopia, Iran, Iraq, Yemen, Morocco and, well, you get the picture, brought their methods of cooking, their ingredients, their recipes and their styles to Israel. This fusion has spawned some delicious dishes, as well as the ability for one restaurant to serve "Middle Eastern" or "Israeli" food, but still offer shnitzel(Eastern European) and shakshuka(Moroccan) on the same menu. You can eat cheaply and you can spend the big bucks at places like the Azrieli Observatory where diners look out onto the city from Israel's highest tower. While I don't recommend all foreign restaurants(stay away from Mexican and Chinese), there are some phenomenal French, Indian and Japanese restaurants. Come to Tel Aviv hungry and you'll leave with brand new cravings for things like shwarma, hummus with mushrooms and fatout.
