There is the Bontanical Gardens in Tempe next to the Zoo, off the 202. Also, Mill Avenue is a very popular area to go to, full of great restaurants and things to do and see. Also, you can go to downtown Old Scottsdale where you can take the tram for free and it will drop you off where ever you want to see in that area. Buca di Beppo is also a great restaurant to go to. I also like Macaroni Grill restaurant (one of my favorites). If you decide to go to Mesa, you can walk on Main St. near Center St. where there are beautiful huge sculptures for 3 or 4 blocks. You can park for free. This is unique and different. There are also restaurants in that area where you can stop and eat at.

In Tempe, browse Mill Ave. by the ASU, picnic at town lake.
In Scottsdale visit Fashion Square Mall to shop, thurs. night do the art walk in Old Town, have a beer or soda and listen to the music at the Rusty Spur Saloon and walk around Civic Plaza and visit SMOCA (check for museum hours), visit the Talking Stick Casino and go to the top for a drink (opt.) and the view, hike Squaw Peak or Camelback Mountain, walk the Waterfront from where 5th Ave. begins off of Indian School Rd. to Scottsdale Rd., visit Arcosanti, eat at local restaurants (not the chains recommended below). Many great ones.
The MIM and the Heard Museum in Phoenix are excellent. Check the sports available, if you like sports, because all the facilities are fabulous. Much to do in the valley besides lying in the sun and spa treatments. For Mexican food go to the TeePee on Indian School rd. where Bush ate when he visited.
Have a blast!
