- If ypu visit the beaches near Rotterdam, at Hoek van Holland, also visit the Dutch stronghold "Fort aan den Hoek van Holland", built between 1881 and 1889, meant to protect the Rotterdam harbour entrance. After the German invasion of the Netherlands, the former Dutch queen Wilhelmina left the country on 13 May 1940, from here.
