Description:
The Makedonia Palace, now managed by the Grecotel Group as a five-star luxury resort hotel, draws both business travelers and Greek families on holiday -- not to mention high-stepping gamblers. (Europe's largest casino is next door.) In the usual manner of Greek hotel decor, the serious glitz is concentrated in the lobby and the guest rooms are rather bland. All units have balconies and picture windows, but if you stay here, insist on a seaside room. (Why pay all that money and not have the view?) If you don't want to head back into town, the hotel's restaurants include a sushi bar and the rooftop Porfyra restaurant, serving up international cuisine with splendid views over the city and Gulf.
