Casa Dona Gracia

Description:

  • This hotel, set in a modern building that has been renovated into a Sephardic cultural center and museum, is named for Tiberias's legendary patroness, Dona Gracia, who was herself a refugee from the Spanish Inquisition. It's a few blocks inland from the lake, near the bus station, and a good choice for travelers on a budget. Though it's a bit institutional in terms of service, rooms are fresh, modern, and simple but bright and cheerful. As rooms differ in size, view, and shape, ask to see more than one before you make your choice. In summer, during the Jewish holidays, and whenever there are special reunions or meetings of Sephardic groups or families, Casa Dona Gracia may be booked solid. At other times, especially for those who don't want a swimming pool, it can offer a slightly offbeat, interesting window into Tiberias's large Sephardic community.
