Description:
- The Nikko Kanaya Hotel, established in 1873 (Meiji era), is the oldest continuously operating resort hotel in Japan. It stands on a hill overlooking the town's red Sacred Bridge, well located for sightseeing. The Western-style twin rooms contain a mixture of antique and modern furnishings. The public rooms are very ornate, patterned on nearby Toshogu Shrine. The hotel has hosted many important guests over the years - Charles Lindbergh, Eleanor Roosevelt, Albert Einstein, Indira Gandhi and even the Emperor. Frank Lloyd Wright left a sketch for the fireplace in the bar. Try the restaurant's excellent shabu shabu.
