- This traditional Japanese inn sits on the banks of the Hidaka River in the hot spring resort of Ryujin. The resort became popular in the 17th century, and Shimogoten was an inn designed to for the followers of the feudal lords but it was reconstructed and modernized in the 1960's. The Japanese-style rooms are simple and meals are served in the room. The indoor segregated hot spring baths are made of polished white stone. Outside, under wooden roofs, are two boulder-strewn pools. The water is classified as sodium hydrogen-carbonate and makes Ryujin Onsen a beautifying hot spring.
