Description:
- Before Japan adopted the solar calendar in the 1870s, summer and winter days had different numbers of hours. The feudal lords (daimyo) could afford to commission craftsmen to make the very intricate timepieces required to keep track of time. Guro Kamiguchi's collection of about 200 clocks also includes some from Europe dating back to the late 16th century. A close look through the overgrowth in the museum garden will reveal some Buddhist statues.
