Honmon-ji Temple (Ikegami)

Description:

  • Well known as the place where Nichiren died in 1282, Honmon-ji Temple commemorates his death with a procession held every year. Munenaka Ikegami, a samurai warrior during the Kamakura era, was responsible for the establishment of this Nichiren-sect temple in 1274. The pagoda was built in 1608 and is Tokyo's oldest. Fortunately both the pagoda and the main gate survived the World War Two air raids in 1945.Admission: Free
