• Koenji, just outside of Shinjuku on the Chuo or Sobu line, is a favorite hang-out for Tokyo's 20-somethings. Combine the excellent cafes, the kooky shops, and easy accessibility to Shinjuku, and it's not hard to see why so many of the city's hip denizens want to live here. Watch out for the Koenji Awaodori festival on the last weekend of August: the streets close down for two nights of traditional dancing and music in the summer heat.
