New Year's Day

Description:

  • Of all the holidays of the year, the Japanese celebrate New Year's Day the best. Mothers sometimes spend a week preparing for the feast to be eaten New Year's Eve. Sons and daughters working or studying in the cities return home. The family is complete from grandparents to grandchildren. While waiting for the clock to strike midnight, everyone enjoys the food and talks to one another while watching the special programs on television. After the bells of New Year have rung, the whole family heads off to the nearest shrine to pray for a bright year ahead.
