Taisoji Temple

Description:

  • Features of this temple are the two statues of notable Buddhist figures. One is the bronze Jizo statue (Buddhist protector of children) adjacent to the main gate. To the rear stands the Emma statue (Hell King). The Hell King's role is purported to be to scare children who misbehave. Perhaps because his garments are Chinese, it is debatable whether his presence has had much effect on Japanese children!
