- Yamatoya Hotel sits like a white castle on a cliff above a mountain stream. Dogashima spa lies in a lush, green valley, accessible only by private cable car or gondola from Miyanoshita resort area. The spa was used by general Toyotomi Hideyoshi to treat his wounded and tired men before resuming battle against future Shogun, Tokugawa Ieyasu. Yamatoya has men's and women's indoor baths, and a lovely open-air bath beside the stream. The water is weak sodium chloride, good for women's disorders, stomach ailments and nervous tension. Both Japanese and western-style rooms are available.
