Yushima Tenjin Plum Festival

Yushima Tenjin Plum Festival - Tokyo

  • Description:

    • Since plum trees were introduced to Japan from China more than a thousand years ago, their blossoms have been popular as the pink and white heralds of spring. Conseqently, ume matsuri (plum blossom festivals) always attract large crowds. One of the best places to enjoy one of these festivals is the Yushima Tenjin Shrine. During the month-long festival, events are staged in and around the temple precincts. These include Tenjin drumming, an outdoor tea ceremony (JPY300), kodan (story-telling), and rakugo (traditional comic story-telling). A visit to the festival makes for an interesting cultural experience and some good photo shots.
